Fishers Advised To Return To Mainland As Tropical Wave Moves Closer To Jamaica

Fishers on the cays and banks have been advised to evacuate immediately and start returning to the mainland as the strong Tropical Wave moves closer to Jamaica.   Other small craft operators are advised to return to port and small craft operators who are in port are advised not to venture out.   In its latest bulletin Thursday morning, the Meteorological Service says a Severe Weather Alert remains in effect as the Tropical Wave over the southeastern Caribbean Sea continues to move westward.    The Wave is producing showers and thunderstorms and has the potential to develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm over the next couple of days.   As the disturbance moves towards the central Caribbean, unstable weather conditions are expected to spread over Jamaica’s territorial waters by Saturday morning.   The Meteorological Service continues to monitor the progress of this system, and all interests are encouraged to pay special attention to further releases.    Senior forecaster at the Meteorological Service, Lawrence Brown, says the system should be better organised by the time it reaches Jamaica.   He warned that the system does not have to make a direct hit to impact the country.
